Intelligence Vault: FI Zoom – Schroders

July 15, 2025

In this AI FI Zoom blog, we take a look at how the leading investment manager Schroders is innovating with AI.

Our aim in publishing this content is to help finance professionals further understand how artificial intelligence and data analytics are being applied to support key business processes within financial institutions.

Helpfully, Schroders provides regular public updates on their innovations.

Internal Developments

The firm’s flagship internal platform, Genie, launched in May 2023, is a generative AI assistant now used by over 3,500 employees. It supports document analysis, onboarding, translation, client insight, and workflow automation.

In private markets, GAiiA (Generative AI Investment Analyst), launched in May 2024, is used by Schroders Capital to accelerate due diligence and investment memo drafting. Designed for human-in-the-loop decision-making, it screens large volumes of private market data and is being expanded beyond co-investments.

Public market teams are supported by ContextAI, introduced in November 2024, which scans company disclosures to generate ESG insights and answer 200+ sustainability-related questions — enabling analysts to create detailed reports at scale.

Other internal tools include:

🔘 Deep Research (experimental ChatGPT agent)

🔘 First Cut (automated company summary generator)

Together, these developments show a deliberate strategy to integrate AI deeply into analysts’ workflows while retaining control over data security, process design, and continuous improvement.

Vendor Partnerships

This inspired us to also look into our Distinctive Insights proprietary industry intelligence database and see which AI-driven solution vendors Schroders have partnered with over the years — to give a second perspective on their developments.

🤝 Sentieo (now part of AlphaSense) — 2020: Supported equities research desks with AI-powered search, tagging, collaboration, and sentiment analysis.

🤝 Virtu Financial 2021: Enabled the trading desk to conduct broker benchmarking, outlier detection, and execution optimisation using machine learning.

🤝 Nexus FrontierTech2022: Co-developed a document parsing engine for fund accounting, reducing validation time by half with over 97 % extraction accuracy.

🤝 Aveni2023: Deployed across Schroders Personal Wealth to monitor all client communications for conduct risk and compliance issues using NLP and generative AI.

🤝 Xceptor2023: Powers core operations automation, transforming transfer agency cashflows into structured data for Aladdin with predictive validation logic.

Together, these internal and external developments highlight how leading firms are building AI capabilities where it matters — and partnering where it counts.
